Unimas Studies LP2M UPJ Business Concept to Promote Collaboration in IT Research, Sustainable Construction, and Urban Development

Bintaro, South Tangerang, 08/07/2024 – A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) visited Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) on June 27, 2024. This visit aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the business concept of UPJ's Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M). 

This visit followed the signing of a cooperation agreement between UPJ and UNIMAS. The MoA serves as a framework for collaboration in four research projects utilizing the matching grant scheme. This scheme supports joint research in the fields of information technology (IT), sustainable construction industry, and digital technology for urban development. 

Associate Professor Dr. Edi Purwanto, Head of LP2M UPJ, stated that the UNIMAS team's visit to UPJ aimed to strengthen the existing cooperation between the research and innovation institutions of these two entities. “Lecturers and researchers across UPJ’s study programs have greatly benefited from the matching grant program over the past five years, enhancing international research collaboration with outcomes published in reputable international journals. In addition to publications, some teams have produced product prototypes that are expected to be developed towards commercialization. Patents have also been obtained, especially for applied research teams funded by the UNIMAS-UPJ Matching Grant program for 2024-2025,” he said. 

The UNIMAS delegation visiting UPJ was led by Senior Director Professor Dr. Lo May Chiun, Chief Digital Officer Professor Dr. Wan Hashim bin Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Director Associate Professor Dr. Abang Azlan Mohamad, Deputy Director Associate Professor Ir Dr. Charles Bong Hin Joo, Unit Head Associate Professor Ir Dr. Mah Yau Seng, and Unit Head Dr. Ahmad Adzlan Fadzli bin Khairi. During the visit, the UNIMAS delegation had the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas with the UPJ LP2M team. The discussion topics were not limited to the matching grant scheme to be used in the research collaboration but also included other opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two universities. 

Senior Director Professor Dr. Lo May Chiun expressed gratitude to the UPJ LP2M team for hosting the UNIMAS visit. He also spoke about the vision of the UNIMAS research team: “Our team is related to research, including innovation. It relates to information and technology as well as medical research. How to design education, we emphasize that,” said Professor Dr. Lo May Chiun. 

The working visit of the UNIMAS delegation to UPJ is expected to be a strategic initial step in strengthening institutional relations between the two universities. Through research collaboration in various fields, it is hoped that innovative solutions can be produced to address the development challenges faced by both countries.
