Two UPJ Debate Teams Win at UNAS FEST 2024 Competition

Bintaro, South Tangerang 12/11/2024 - Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) has achieved another national milestone. Remarkably, two UPJ debate teams advanced to the final round and clinched the championship titles at both the Indonesian Language Debate Competition (KDBI) and the English Debate Competition (EDC). This competition is part of the National University Anniversary celebration, which invites universities from all over Indonesia to participate in various prestigious competitions.

Through the UPJ Debate Student Activity Unit (UKM), UPJ sent two of its flagship teams to compete in the KDBI and EDC categories. The competition took place online in the preliminary to semifinal rounds held on September 18-20, 2024. The final round was held offline on November 6-7, 2024.

UPJ's KDBI team consisted of Komang Genta Ayu Saraswati, a student of Department of Psychology class of 2022, and Afiifah Nur Sabrina, a student of Department of Management class of 2021. Meanwhile, the EDC team was represented by Mayritza Aurel and Putriku Salmaku, both from the Department of Communication Science class of 2022. Throughout each stage of the competition, they successfully demonstrated their critical thinking skills and effective argumentation, advancing to the final round.

“The success of UPJ's two debate teams in winning the national event is a clear proof of UPJ's commitment in supporting students' ability to think critically and competitively,” said UPJ Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Ir. Agustinus Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM. “We are proud of this achievement and hope it inspires other students to continue to excel.”

In the final round, UPJ's KDBI and EDC teams faced intense competition over two days, with two rounds on the first day and one round on the second day. The results were highly satisfying; the KDBI debate team secured second place, while the EDC team achieved third place.

This achievement further strengthens UPJ's position in the national competition scene and proves the quality of UPJ's coaching and support for students in developing highly competitive debate skills.
