UPJ Lecturer Receives Award at ICO-SEID 2024 for Innovation in Sustainable Environment, City and Industry
Bintaro, South Tangerang 11/11/2024 - Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) recorded an international achievement at the “2nd International Conference on Sustainable Engineering, Infrastructure, and Development” (ICO-SEID 2024) by winning an award in the Sustainable Environment, City and Industry category. UPJ was represented by Product Design Study Program lecturer, Ismail Alif Siregar, S.Sn., M.A., together with a collaborative team from the Product Design, Informatics, and Accounting Study Programs, along with a team from PT SPORA EV as an industry partner, presenting an innovative project “Ergonomic Innovations in Last-Mile Delivery: The Case for Electric Cargo Bikes in Urban Mobility.”
The project aims to provide solutions for efficient and environmentally friendly last-mile transportation in urban areas. With ergonomic features that support courier comfort and hybrid technology that reduces carbon emissions, these electric cargo bikes are designed to help address mobility challenges in big cities. The project focused on a design that reduces the physical burden on the rider while improving energy efficiency.
The success of this project is due to cross-disciplinary cooperation. This collaboration team consists of several UPJ lecturers, namely Hari Nugraha Ranudinata, S.Ds., M.Ds., Ph.D., Head of Study Program and Lecturer of Product Design; Mohammad Nasucha, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Lecturer of Informatics Study Program; and Dr. Irma Paramita Sofia, S.E., Ak., M.Ak., CA., Head and Lecturer of Accounting Study Program. This collaboration strengthens project development with a holistic approach that includes aspects of ergonomic design, informatics technology, and business analysis.
Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Jaya Ir. Yudi Samyudia, Ph.D. appreciated this achievement as a step forward in strengthening UPJ's reputation in the field of sustainable research. “This achievement reflects UPJ's commitment in encouraging innovations that have a direct impact on society, especially in facing urban sustainability challenges. I am very proud of the outstanding collaboration of the cross-program team that has contributed to this project,” he said.
The ICO-SEID 2024 conference, held in Bogor, Indonesia, provides a collaborative platform for academia, industry, and government to discuss sustainable infrastructure issues and modern city challenges. With the theme “Shaping the Future with Resilient and Sustainable Engineering,” this event is a momentum for UPJ to demonstrate its commitment in developing innovations relevant to urban sustainability.
In the next step, UPJ seeks to encourage the adoption of this innovation by industry and policymakers so that electric cargo bikes can be widely applied in urban environments. “We hope that this electric cargo bike can be an efficient and environmentally friendly solution for short-distance delivery in urban areas,” said Ismail Alif Siregar, representing the innovator team from UPJ.
