UPJ Dominates the Indonesian Taekwondo Championship KONI Cup Series 5 in 2024 with 10 Gold Medals

Bintaro, South Tangerang, 29/11/2024 - Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) once again made brilliant achievements in the national sports arena. UPJ Taekwondo UKM dominated the Taekwondo Indonesia Championship Series 5 KONI Cup 2024, winning a total of 10 gold medals in the Kyorugi and Poomsae categories. The championship took place on November 15-17 at the Indoor Stadium Sport Center Tangerang, Banten, with 3,230 athletes from 217 clubs throughout Indonesia participating.    
 
Chairman of the Central KONI, Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman, stated that this event is an effort to advance national sports towards preparations for the 2044 Olympics. “Taekwondo is a superior branch in the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON),” he said at the opening of the event.   
 
The UPJ contingent won medals in the following categories:    
 
Senior Kyorugi:  
 
1. Muhammad Farrel Ghifari (Psychology, 2021) - 1st place Male U-87 Kg    
 
2. Sheika Moza Setiadi (Communication Science, 2023) - 1st place U-56 Kg Female    
 
3. Youko Ananka (Visual Communication Design, 2023) - 1st Female U-63 Kg Champion    
 
4. Acce Venio Hasugian (Information Systems, 2023) - 1st place U-51 Kg Male    
 
5. Raddit El Yazid Vabryo (Information Systems, 2024) - 1st place U-57 Kg Male    
 
6. Fellip Geraldy Tjahiadi (Visual Communication Design, 2024) - 1st place U-70 Kg Male    
 
Senior Individual Poomsae:  
 
7. Aldiman Chandra (Informatics, 2023) - 1st place in Men's Taegeuk 5    
 
8. Daniswara Apriliano (Informatics, 2023) - 1st place in Men's Taegeuk 5    
 
9. Layla Cecilia Bonita (Psychology, 2023) - 1st Female Taegeuk 1 Champion    
 
10. Adrianus (Informatics, 2023) - 1st Champion Male Taegeuk 1 10. Yohanes (Informatics, 2023) - 1st Champion Male Taegeuk 2   
 
This success received appreciation from UPJ Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Agustinus Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM.    
 
“This extraordinary achievement shows that UPJ is not only superior in the academic field, but also able to produce outstanding athletes. We are committed to continue supporting student development through sports science programs and integrated coaching,” he said.    
 
Meanwhile, one of the gold medalists, Sheika Moza Setiadi, from the U-56 Kg Senior Female Kyorugi category, expressed her pride, “Intensive training and support from coaches and friends really helped me achieve this result. Hopefully I can continue to bring the good name of UPJ in national and international events” she concluded.  
 
With 3,230 participants from 13 provinces, KONI Cup Series 5 proved to be a competitive event. The Kyorugi and Poomsae categories were the main stage for UPJ athletes to shine.
