Genovator 2025: Successfully Held, SOPJR Students Inspired to Become Agents of Environmental Change

Students from the Department of Communication at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) successfully organized Genovator 2025, an initiative aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and sustainable development. Held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the auditorium of Sekolah Olahraga Pembangunan Jaya Raya (SOPJR), the event carried the theme “Great Spirit for Our Future Environment” and the tagline “Youngest Generation Inspire Others.”
Engaging Youth in Environmental Advocacy
Genovator 2025 engaged 60 SOPJR students in a series of educational, interactive, and creative activities designed to emphasize the crucial role of young individuals as agents of change in addressing environmental challenges.
In her opening remarks, Dra. Marini Dian N, M.Pd, Principal of SOPJR, commended the initiative and stressed the importance of integrating sustainability principles into everyday life from an early age. "Through this Genovator event, you not only learn but also directly apply values that support Sustainable Eco Development. Simple practices, such as reducing plastic usage, minimizing food waste, and sorting waste before disposal, should begin within the school environment," she emphasized.

The festival commenced with an interactive seminar by Amanda Prita Kirana, CEO and Founder of Dit Reveille, who introduced students to the upcycling potential of plastic bottle waste for crafting eco-friendly furniture. She demonstrated how creativity can transform discarded materials into aesthetically pleasing and functional high-value products.

Participants engaged in a hands-on workshop on processing organic waste into maggot feed—an innovative approach utilizing the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly to effectively reduce food waste. Event Manager Yogi Prasetio emphasized the significance of integrating hands-on experiences into environmental education. "Our goal as the Genovator organizing committee is to introduce a fresh, practical, and enjoyable approach to sustainability without compromising educational depth. By inviting experts in waste management and providing interactive activities—such as maggot-related waste processing—we aim to foster firsthand engagement," he explained.
Despite the demanding training schedules of SOPJR students as athletes, Genovator 2025 was executed seamlessly, with enthusiastic participation driving the event's success.
