SIMANIS 2025: UPJ Strengthens Academic Synergy through Urban Business Forum and MoU Signing with Partner Universities
Seminar on Management and Business (SIMANIS) 2025: Advancing Innovation and Sustainability in Urban Business and Management
Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), through its Department of Management, successfully hosted the Seminar on Management and Business (SIMANIS) 2025 as an academic forum dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities of sustainable business management in urban settings.
With the theme “Innovation and Sustainability in Urban Business and Management,” the seminar brought together students, academics, researchers, and industry practitioners from various institutions, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and insights.
Held on UPJ’s campus, the event formed part of the academic series for the Seminar on Specialization Topics course, serving as a key platform for cross-sectoral collaboration between academia and industry.
Opening Remarks: The Role of Universities in Sustainable Innovation
In his opening address, Dr. Ir. Agustinus Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, emphasized the significance of the seminar’s theme within the context of Indonesia’s evolving urban landscape: "This year’s theme—innovation and sustainability in urban business and management—is highly relevant to the challenges faced by urban areas in Indonesia. Major cities like South Tangerang are continuously evolving, and this demands all of us, including lecturers, to consistently foster sustainable innovation," he stated.
He further underscored the critical role of universities in delivering tangible solutions to societal challenges: "A campus is not just a place for learning and research—it must create impact. Even Deputy Minister Stella reminded us that universities must produce graduates who are critical thinkers, problem solvers, and capable of addressing real-world challenges. Innovation must be adaptive to the times—learn from major cases like the fall of Nokia. It used to be cutting-edge and sought after, but due to its failure to innovate, it was left behind," he explained.
Keynote Presentations and Research Contributions
The seminar featured two keynote speakers from both academic and professional backgrounds, delivering insightful discussions on Urban Sustainable Development and Real Estate Branding’s Influence on Consumer Behavior.
Following the keynote addresses, the event proceeded with parallel sessions, providing students and faculty from various institutions the opportunity to present their research findings, fostering intellectual exchange and academic discourse.
Strengthening Inter-University Collaboration
A pivotal moment of SIMANIS 2025 was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UPJ and three strategic partner universities—Bina Insani University, Universitas Sains Indonesia, and Indonesia Banking School. The MoU reinforces academic collaboration among institutions in the fields of education, research, and innovation.
Cynthia Sari Dewi, S.E., M.Sc., Chair of SIMANIS 2025, highlighted the significance of inter-university partnerships in enhancing academic impact: "Collaboration among higher education institutions is essential to broaden impact and enrich perspectives in developing sustainable management and business knowledge," she stated.
Concluding Insights and Contributions
The seminar concluded with the presentation of awards for outstanding research presentations, recognizing academic excellence and innovation. Additionally, the results of the seminar were compiled and published in a Seminar Handbook, serving as a tangible contribution from UPJ in advancing urban transformation through academic inquiry and applied research.
