UPJ and UNIMAS Strengthen Civil Engineering Research Collaboration Through Academic Meeting
Bintaro, South Tangerang, July 9, 2025 — Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) recently welcomed an academic delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) as part of the ongoing Research Matching Grant initiative, established in 2023. Convened at the UPJ Bintaro Campus, the event fostered scholarly exchange, collaborative research, and strategic enhancement of academic quality within the field of civil engineering.
Senior leadership from UPJ were in attendance, including Rector Ir. Yudi Samyudia, Ph.D.; First Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Agustinus Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM; and Second Vice Rector for Human Resources, Operations, and Collaboration, Elisabeth Rukmini, Ph.D., alongside other institutional representatives.
In his keynote address, Rector Samyudia underscored the critical role of international academic partnerships that extend beyond administrative formalities, contributing directly to the scholarly development and pedagogical enrichment of students.
The visiting delegation from UNIMAS comprised five academics actively engaged in civil engineering education and research:
-
Associate Professor Dr. Norsuzailina binti Mohamed Sutan – Principal Investigator
-
Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Norazzlina binti M. Sa’don – Co-Investigator and Dean, Faculty of Engineering
-
Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Razak bin Abdul Karim – Co-Investigator
-
Dr. Faisal Amsyar bin Redzuan – Co-Investigator
-
Madam Nur Syuhada binti Ahmad Zauzi – Co-Investigator
The program commenced with a knowledge-sharing session on the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) accreditation framework in Malaysia, led by Dr. Norazzlina and Dr. Abdul Razak. This session offered technical perspectives on professional accreditation mechanisms and their alignment with international engineering standards.
Subsequently, a technical seminar was held on the application of analytical software in civil engineering, featuring tools such as Mathcad, Abaqus, and Geostudio. The seminar was attended by faculty members and students from UPJ’s Department of Civil Engineering.
The event concluded with the final thesis defenses of two UPJ students:
-
Joses Aristo Kristofer: Effectiveness Study of Retention Ponds as Flood Mitigation in Pamulang Asri 2 Residential Area
-
Anggita Theresia Imanuela Simanjuntak: Analyzing the Productivity of Precast Manufacturing Using Agent-Based Modelling (ABM)
These examination sessions were directly observed by the UNIMAS delegation, who also contributed technical feedback from an external academic standpoint.
This cross-institutional engagement not only reinforces inter-university cooperation but also cultivates opportunities for integrating civil engineering scholarship across Southeast Asia. Both UPJ and UNIMAS reaffirm their commitment to sustained collaborative research and the continued exchange of applicable academic expertise.
