History of UPJ
Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), a private university in Bintaro, was established in 2011 with the support of the Pembangunan Jaya Business Group. With over 50 years of business experience, the group operates 17 business units across various sectors, including property, manufacturing, management consultation, design consultation, construction, tourism, trading, mechanical and electrical engineering, and education. Their commitment to nurturing qualified human resources in Indonesia led to a focus on education.
This vision began to take shape with the establishment of Yayasan Pendidikan Jaya on September 3, 1991. The foundation has since launched several educational institutions: Pembangunan Jaya School I in Bintaro (K-12 education since 1992), Global Jaya School in Bintaro (K-12 education since 1995), and Pembangunan Jaya School II in Surabaya (kindergarten and elementary education since 2006).
Pembangunan Jaya (PJ) recognizes its responsibility in the Indonesian education sector. Building on its experience in elementary and middle school education, PJ took a confident step forward by establishing Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ). The board of Yayasan Pendidikan Jaya envisioned a unique higher education institution that leverages its resources to nurture intelligent, creative, and morally principled individuals. The goal is to develop responsible members of society who can create new businesses and job opportunities for others.
After a challenging journey, UPJ received its permit to operate in 2011 through Ministerial Decree Number 38/D/2011 on February 25, 2011. Guided by the motto "Integrity, Professionalism, and Entrepreneurship," UPJ fosters students to become individuals of integrity, professionalism, creativity, and innovation with entrepreneurial skills.
Initially housed in a temporary building in a commercial area of Bintaro, UPJ moved to a new facility in Bintaro Jaya in June 2015, thanks to the growing number of students and the need for a better educational environment. Pembangunan Jaya Business Group and Yayasan Pendidikan Jaya demonstrated their commitment by allocating a 15-hectare area for UPJ's development over the next 20 years.
